PUBLIC HALL.W* do not know of an/ thing; that is moreneed«-d or desirable in our city at present thana tasteful and commodious hail, suitable forfairs concerts, exhibtions, lecture*, assemblies, and public entertainments generally. Arid itseems to us that it would be a good idea for thecity to build a new and respectable markethouse, in some accessible part of the city, andhave the second story finished off in handsomestyle for such a hall. We have no doubt that the receipt from the rent of such a building, would pay a good per centage upon the cost ofconstruction, besides being a substantial ornament and convenience to the city.ft may be too late in Uie season, now to Jo anything, hut would it not be well for the “father*” to talk tiie matter over in their council chamber this winter, with a new to acting early in the coming spring.
