Marshall, pastor of the Congregational church,was appointed Chaplain.Jas. H. Frazier received 79 baskets of peaches yesterday which he is disposing of rapidly. They are in good condition and pf flavor.The fall term of School in the south district will open on Monday with Miss Emma Stickney as teacher. The school house has been thoroughly repaired during the summer recess, a change that will no doubt be appreciated by both teacher and pupils.The Acadtmy will not open until the second week in September. Miss Savage and Miss Sage will continue in charge of the two rooms.Mr. and Mrs. Julius Weed and daughter are in town,the guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Botelle.Mr. and Mrs. Edward L. Noble have met with a severe loss in the death of their onlv child, Harold Beaumont, who died yesterday morning of cholera infantum, at the age of 9 months. The funeral will take place at the house to morrow afternoon.It might be safe now for the prophet of Middle Haddam to predict that the 25th of next December would be Christmas day.Republicans here were greatly relieved on reading the Hartford Post of Tuesday night containg an interview with William Willshire Riley, the Cromwell inventor and poet, in Xyhieh that gentleman expressed it as his unanimous opinion that Harrison would be elected. Those in town who have the pleasure of a personal acquaintance with Mr. Riley said at once, “That settles it. The campaign is virtually ended and Harrison is elected.’’The democrats were naturally displeased that Mr. Riley had decided the matter so early in the fight and one of them rather un kindly remarked, that it took only half a column of the Pont to tell what Willshire knew about the campaign, but that if it had undertaken to publish what he did’nt H know it would have taken several editions of tue paper with good-sized supplements attached. But then the democrat was mad.Miss Florence Burr gives a party this evening to a large number of her young friends.IVORYTOft.
