55 years ago, Aug. 22, 1957 A 1953 Ford stolenfrom Decker’s Garage in Rivers last month was found abandoned at Keremeos, B.C. When B.C. police discovered this car, they also learned a 1948 vehicle had been stolen from their town, presumably by the same car thief(ves). Construction of a new 44- by 60-foot steel building is underway one mile west of Rivers on the north side of Hwy. 25. The concrete foundation is poured and the steel framework has been completed for the municipal garage. Cameo Grill on Main Street changed its appearance when the exterior was painted lime green. Mr. and Mrs. Doug Madden had a girl Aug. 3; Lt. and Mrs. Geoffrey Magee had a girl Aug. 10; Mr. and Mrs. Allan Chalmers had a boy Aug. 12. Marg-Ann Houck married Leonard Jones last weekend; Donna Harvey married Richard Hean last week. Mr. and Mrs. J. Topinka were guests of honour at a farewell party in Bradwardine on Aug. 16; after 14 years of operating Bradwardine Hardware, they are moving to Brandon. The store will now be managed by Harry Orlie who is also caretaker of the CPR station property.
