Cooke, 93, pioneer Sandusky resident and niece of Jay Cooke who has gone down in history as the man who financed the Civil War for the North, died at Good Samaritan Hospital Wednesday evening after a lengthyillness.She lived at 904 Wayne-st,Miss Cooke’s famed uncle was a friend of Abraham Lincoln'and Ulysses S. Grant. The Sandusky nonagenarian enjoyed relating how she and her oldest sister once attended a social reception in Washington, D. CM and how she was the first person at the affair to clasp the hand of President Grant who came across the room to greet her.At that time Miss Cooke was approximately 15 years of age.She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church.Survivors include two nephews,, the Rev. Rush R. Sloane, Episcopal rector oi* the Church of St. John’s, Lattinglown, Locust Valley, Long Island, N. Y., and Thomas M. Sloane, of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and one cousin, Alexander Hosmer of Tacoma, ■Wash. , |Friends may call at the Lutz; Funeral Home after 10 a. nr. Fri-j day, where services will be at 1:30 p. m. Saturday and at Grace Church at 2 p. m., with the Rev. Rush R. Sloane, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
