COUNTY OFFICERS MEET.Various Associations Chooss Officers—Supervisors Taks Stand on Contracts.Burlington. Aug. 16.—The seventeenth annual session of the county supervisors of Iowa closed here yesterday with the election of officers. Highway Improvement was one of the principal subjects of consideration. Bridges and culverts, the best material for road making, drainage and county Institutions came In for interesting consideration. .Resolutions were adopted urging the legislature to adopt laws compelling supervisors to annually advertise for and accept bids for the building of bridges and culverts, all bridge work to be done during the year following, that all public thoroughfares be placed under the direct supervision of the supervisors, empowered with authority to have roads opened to the established width, to ha«re all bridge construction work placed under supervision of county boards, to have laws relative to taxation, drainage, etc.. so modified as to admit of a clearer understanding and that all real estate property be assessed at its market value.Prof. C. E. Brindley, state tax commissioner. of Des Moines and Clifford Thorne, state railway commissioner, addressed the session. The election of officers was as follows: President, J. W.Holden. Greene county: vice president. O. H. Dunlap. Washington county; secretary, I. H. Taggart, Page county: treasurer. H. H. Snakenburg. Keokuk county. Council Bluffs was selected as the next meeting place.The state treasurers, county auditors and county stewards also closed their conventions, after a full discussion of matters of interest to their membership. Today all of the four conventions joined in an excursion by river to the Keokuk dam.The following officers were elected by the other conventions:Treasurers—President. F. D. Bentley. Waterloo; Wee president, J. W. Pepper-man. Grundy Center; secretary, C. C. Hunter, Poweshiek; treasurer. W. S. Wadsworth. Winnebago.Auditors—President. A. F. Canfield. Linn county; vice president. M. F. Finley. Dallas: secretary. Jack Frost. Cerro Gordo county; treasurer. E. L. Marriage, Hardy.Stewards of county farms—President. J. P. McGuire. Mason City; vice president, W. J. Sternberg. Orange City; secretary and treasurer, E. S. Lo wen berg, Ottumwa.
