Bootleggers Busy at Carthage Fair,Detectives Charge After ArrestOf Two Among Last Day CrowdsBootlegging^ operations on the grounds of the Hamilton County Fair in Carthage were discovered yesterday by private detectives of the Hamilton County Agricultural Society and city detectives, they say. Twomen were arrested on charges of i lie -gaily possessing and selling intoxicating liquor.The men gave their names and addresses as Earl A. Schaeffer, 26 yeats old, Lockland, O.. and Sam Wallace, 35 years old, negro. Lockland, O. Detectives Hayes, Bullerdick, McShane and Duhn made the arrests.Reports early yesterday to fair officials that several men were enjoying a flourishing business selling whisky and “moonshine” at very high prices caused an investigation. The detectives say they obtained evidence confirming the reports, but that most of the bootleggers eluded their efforts to capture them.“Queen City Day,” the final day ofthe fair, was the biggest day in the history of the Hamilton County Fairs, according to officials. Between 35,000 and 40,000 persons crowded through the entrances. The grand stand and the exhibition tents were filled to overflowing and many were unable to obtain seats. Thousands thronged about the race track and sweltered in the heat as they watched the races, the baby show, the cavalry stunts and the thrills of auto polo.Two-score of babies were lined up on benches facing the grand stand, and the baby show was one of the chief events of the afternoon. Ribbons and pins were given to those winning the various prizes.Later in the afternon the Ohio National Guard cavalrymen exhibited verious stunts, including running, hurdling and drills.
