A rkcknt issue of the Rockford 1 Daily Republican contained the follow- i inp relative to Wm. Farrell, of this city, under the captioa -‘The Youngest Soldier:”William Farrell, of Harvard, dropped into the Republican office with a Eockfordcomrade. He is now a man In his prime, and does not look as though it were possible that he served , In the army of the 60*8, but he did. He enlisted at Richmond, McHenry county, August 16th, 1862, in company H of the Ninety-fifth Illinois Infantry. He was at that time twelve years and seven months old. He was born January 1st, 1H50. Mr Farrell was mustered iu at Camp Fuller is Rockford as a drummer, weighing at the/time 78 pounds. He served three years—until the end of the war—being mustered out August 16,1865. He never missed a day’s service in that time nor a batt!6 which his regl-' ment was in. With the regiment be traveled 10,000 miles. Last week be secured $1,272 in back pension. When he was mustered in the mustering officer told him he had better go home to his mother, he was too young to enlist. But he persisted, and was finally taken in. He has not forgotten his war experiences, and can still rattle a drum liite a drum major.
