ran a,.... James H' Blenk, RomanCatholic archbishop of New Orleans,I was born in Neu6, 1S56. He was educated at St. Janies College, Baltimore, and atCollege, Louisiana, and en-rhe Society of Mary in 1874. His theological studies were completed in Franc*5 and Ireland. After hism.ordination in 1 885 he became a professor in Jefferson College and from 1 890 to 1886 he was president of the institution. In 1898 he was made auditor of the apostolic delegation to*Cuba and Porto Rico and the following year he became bishop of Porto Rico. He remained in the island until 1906, when he was appointed archbishop of New Orleans in succession to Archbishop Chapelle.
