BEXAR TAXES WILL BE CUTw ___- * J ' ' *.i ' . •.EXPECTED BY AUDITOR WIGGINS THAT RATE WILL BE LOWER. ED 10 TO 15 PER CENT.The couty tax rate for Bexar county, which will be made some time before August. 20, is expected by Auditor .Wiggins to be reduced considerably, i but he is unable at thU time to est.i* f 'mute the amount of reduction that I the increased assessment ot real and personal property, as made by the Board of Equalisation, will justify. The work of the board was completed today, but it will be several ; days before the final report showing• the exact amount of the increase is made. Today board members said* they did not have the slightest idea as to what the increase would to til. • . . -The county tax rate is now 54 1-2 cents,” eaid Auditor Wiggins today.and I would not be surprised if from ton : to*' fifteen cents w,as lopped off of this. The increased assessments will not. mean that the county wilt have any increased revenue, but it. will simply mean Unit the tax rate will be cut down and the people of the entire county will ho benefit ted by it. The revenues will remain practically unchanged. The only item of county expense on which the rate will not be lowered will probably' be the assessment for roads and bridges. A vast sum has been spent recently in providing good roads for the county anti it, will require money to keep them in re* pair. Under this heading the money is also securecT'Tor the sinking fund uud to pay -.the interest on the bonds, that were sold to pay for the road Improvements. .Fifteen cents is now assessed to keen the roads up and to meet the interest debt on bonds and ta pro-j vide u sinking fund for the retirement J of the bonds. There is little chance that this particular assessment can be reduced. • •Mr, Wiggins is now working on an estimated budget of appropriations for the coming year which he will have ready to submit to the County court within a short time.
