It was Mrs. Anderson who founded the Clio club, which today Blands' among Uio lending utcrnry societies In tho city.Mrs. Anderson wna born In llt;aucaster, Wisconsin. and iior oarly education wan obtained at a privnto school, for those were thn days before Iho present free school system had been Introduced into tho state. I-nter she wont to T^twienco college from which she was graduated with high honors. She returned to her home upon the completion of her course. and the following year laught school in lown. latter she taught nt Plata-vlllo. Wisconsin, and returned home again following- tho Civil war.In 1S73 she was nmrtled to Judge Anderson and mov«‘d Immediately to Manitowoc, where she has resided over eluce. Her keen Intellect ami winning personality quickly established her as a leader In tho city of her adoption. A circle ol women banded together In read various current Moisture, and It was following a discussion which arose nt ono of (hose moeitngs, that .'Its Anderson determined lo appeal to Andrew Carnegie for an up to dato library for the city to replace tho Old Jones literary library, which was In bad shape duo to hcglvcl.And so Mrs. Anderson wrole to Mr. Carnegie. A few. days Inter she received a reply Trom his private secretary Haling that Mr. Carnegie would bo glad to donMo $25,000 providing a building would bo orocted to- house the collection of volumes. Tho matter was laid before various public spirited men and funds w’ere rnlsed for tho work. Tho rollowlug year the nelunt work of construe tlon wna started.Mis. Anderson i« a lover of ni l. Moral ure and music,, and among her Intimate friends and family bears tho enviable reputation of being an excellent emik. Cooking, she admits, is her hobby.
