A choice collection of exquisite paintings were exhibited at Lincoln Hall last night to the many friends of the Misses Alice and Jeannette Guysi. These young artists are Cincinnati girls, and have been studying for the last four year* in Italy and Paris. Their work is most flattering, and was viewed last night by many admirers.“Confidences,” by Miss Alice Guysi, is a delightful rustic piece, and is much admired, it being her first picture in the Paris Salon. “The Deserted Altar,” also by Miss Alice, is taken from the abbey church at Aire, France, “In Picardy,” painted by Miss Jeannette Guysi, attracted a great deal of attention. Miss Jeannette’s piece, “A Bit of Heidelberg,” shows some very clever work, as does also the “Lobster” picture. This was exhibited in the Paris Salonin 1892, and was her second painting. A remarkable feature of the still-life picture by Miss Jeannette, called “Carrots,” is the absence of dark shades, the darkest being a light pea-green.The interior of a Picardy dwelling, by Miss Alice, which has recently been named “The Prize Cabbage,” ranks among her best works. A Venetian piece, by Miss Jeannette, of the old palace and canal Albrizzl, was completed only six months after leaving her master and is pronounced her best picture. Some of the other pictures are “A Vegetable Picture,” “Oranges,”‘•Waiting,” and numerous still-life studies. Miss Jeannette Guysi is the youngest artist ever admitted to the Paris Salon. Her first Salq^ic-ture was purchased by the French Society of the Friends of Art, and not by the government,as has been stated.Miss Alice Guysi was much elated over the fact that her picture, “Un Coin de Cour,” the girls and the geese, had been purchased b^ the Cincinnati Art Museum ,and placed in the Art Exhibit at the World’s Fair. The entire collection at the Lincoln Hall of twenty-one picture*is valued approximately at $3,000, and will be auctioned oil at the close of the exhibition on Friday. The exhibition will be open this afternoon from 2 to 5, and tomorrow afternoon andevening.
