Mike Henry, says he regards the alarming birth rate, especially in the 14 to 19 age group, as the most critical problem currently facing the country.Mr. Henry said if this spiralling birth rate is not attended to as a matter of priority ifwiil erode all the projected benefits from overall national efforts.He was 'giving the mam address at the hrst Cornwall Regional Hospital Awards Ceremony at the Mount Alvcmia High School auditorium on Friday, April 19.Mr. Henry said thar a realistic atm in addressing the high incidence of births is to attain a zero birth rate for the next ten years. He indicated that this can only be achieved by tying monetary to social benefits given to women who are the targets of this kind of thinking.Underscoring the importance of individual responsibility to national development, Mr. Henry said that for real progress to be achieved individual sacrifices had-to be made. He added that individual endeavours towards national goals should transcend political and selfish boundaries.The Minister commended staffers at the Cornwall Regional Hospital for the personal sacrifices they have made over the years to ensure thar the institution remains functional. He said that the Cornwall Regional Hospital can emerge as the pioneering institution of its rype in the Caribbean as was orgmally conceived.The function was also addressed by the Minister of Health Dr. Kenneth Baugh, Member of Parliament Mr, Geoffery Roache, Hospital Board Chairman Mr. Donat Creighton, Mayor Shalman Scott and Senior Medical Officer of Heath, Dr Barry Dixon,Chamber of Commerce president of Mr., Winston Dear and Cornwall Regional Hospital Administrator Mrs. Shelia Wearherly also attended.Forty-four members of staff received awards for their outstanding services to the institution which was officially opened in March 1974. Community and special awards were also presented. The Cornwall Regional Hospital Choir, Sister Geotgtanne Mane and Mr, Roy Fuller entertained.
