Venue Change RequestedTexas Western’s segregation issue was in the news again this week when Attorney General Ben Sheppard asked for a change of venue to transfer the anti-segregation suit brought by Miss Thelma White. Attorney General Sheppard wants the case transferred from El Paso to Austin because transferring the suit would be more convenient to the many defendants, including all members of the University of Texas Board of Regents.None of the regents live within the El Paso district, Sheppard pointed out, and except for Board Chairman Tom Sealy, all are at least 500 miles closer to Austin. No matter how far the issue is taken from El Paso, it will still remain close to home, for it concerns our own college, and because it will shape future college policies regarding segregation.
