Hazing Leads to Legal Complications.Three Students Arrested and TwoAare Fined--Hazing in Uni-%versity.lt;►*♦From Wednesday’s Daily.Huntington business university students were placed under arrest this morning by City Marshal Bert Nevins and Officer Millen and taken before Mayor Anderson for trial. Students arrested were John Bowersox, of Garrett, charged with provoke; H. E. Krutz, of Goshen, charged with profanity, and George Good, of Warren, charged with assault and battery. 'The boys stood trial, arguing their own cases. Bowersox showed special talent as a lawyer in asking questions, but the case went against him and he was assessed a fine of$15.15, which be paid. H. E. Krutz»was found guilty on the charge of profanity, as he had said “d—mit,” and he was assessed a fine of $13.90. George Good, charged -with assault and battery, was cleared of the charge.College life in Huntington is pretty strenuous, and the trouble leading up to the scene in police court this morning was due to the fact that Krutz, Bowei’sox and4others attempted Jo haze Samuel Haynes, another student, Tuesdaynight. They missed their calculations and Haynes made his escape. He then filed affidavits against Krutz, Bowersox and Good, charging them individually with provoke, profanity and assault and battery.Hazing, though a barbarous habit and one to be suppressed, has heeua custom in Huntington schools forsome months. Some of the hazing students have had to put up with in the past was something “fierce,” compared with the attempt madeTuesday evening and the perpetrators escaped punishment. As the young men implicated are otherwise first-rate law-abiding boys, they seem to have suffeied pretty-severelj* at the hands mayor who imposed their fine. It is I hoped for that reason that President Hawkins and the college faculty can overlook the infringement on the college rules and give the boys another chance and not expell tliem, which is likely to be done, according to reports heard. The business university is in thriving condition aud the only regret is that Prof. Hawkins did not build his new college a block long and five stories high. Even with the addition of the new story, the college is crowded for room. New students coming every day make it plain to every one that Prof. Hawkins will have to add another story or two in the near future. The college means much to Huntington. It is a sight to see the students that come pouring out of the building at the noon hour aud in tbe evening. Students from all over the country attend and, as a rule, they are verydesirable#residents.
