Rosenberger Has the Name But Not the Time■ByWAYDEBYARD• Star Staff WriterAlthough county Democratic leaders have asked him to run, Thomas D. Rosenberger, the bearer of one of Frederick County’s most distinguished political names, will not seek the Back Creek seat on the Board of Supervisors.Rosenberger’s late father, ThomasB. Rosenberger, was the board’s chairman from 1968 to 1971, running as a Democrat. He ran as an independent for re-election and lost, but won a seat in 1976 running as a Democrat. During his final term, which ended in 1979, Rosenberger was the board’s vice chairman.Thomas B. Rosenberger’s father,C.M. Rosenberger, was on the boardas early as Sept. 11,1933, according to county records. He served until Dec. 31, 1947, and reassumed office in January 1952, serving until December 1959. The elder Rosenberger waschairman several times.Thomas D. Rosenberger, 32, said he simply didn’t have time to perform the duties of the supervisor’s office. He said his work as-owner of Tom’s Market on Route 600, his work as a farmer, and his 10-year involvement with North Mountain Fire Company, where he is assistant fire chief, leave him little time for public office. However, he did not rule out running for elective office in the future, although he said it probably would be “awfully far down the road.”Even without Rosenberger in the race, there is competition for the Back Creek seat, which is being vacated by Democrat William Baker after one term,Winchester pharmacist Robert M. Rhodes announced Friday he would seek the Republican nomination for the seat. James B. Finan, owner ofFinan Dental Laboratories in Winchester and Martinsburg, W.Va., said March 15 he would seek theRepublican nomination.Planning Commission Chairman Franklin Brumback said earlier this week he had been approached by the Democrats about running but had not decided whether to do so.
