Question: A reader asks: Do you have any pictures or articles on the old Leorke Hospital that was open in the mid 1940s?Answer We’re sure she means the Loerke Hospital (note spelling).According to the Courier clip file. Dr. Welden Loerke and his brother. Dr. Gerald W. (G.W.) Loerke, both osteopaths, ran the Loerke Hospital at 115 N. Marion St.Dr. Weldon Loerke came to Ottumwa in 1931, from practicing in his hometown of Stanton, Neb. His first office was upstairs in a building on Hast Main Street, according to a Courier “Neighbors feature printed May 23,1981,The two brothers ran their hospital on Marion Street from 1943 until moving to a new building at 520 N Sheridan St. in 1903.They operated a 13-bed maternity hospital for four vears at the Marion StreetWaddress.Both graduated from the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in Des Moines.Dr. G.W.
