A well knewH and well read colored citizen a says that if the author of the article criticising the cake walk would inform himself a little better he would know that the cake walk originated id 1867 at Baltimore, the first walk being held in the A, M. E. church, the pastor taking part in the same. This form of amusement is not, as stated, a relic of anti bellum days and is sanctioned everywhere by the higher circles of colored society7, leaders of which have frequently appeared as contestants in the walk
