THE NORTH APPROACH on U.S. By pass 61 west of Keokuk is shown here facing into the Seventh Street hill of U.S. 136, just above the Des Moines River bridge. The Bypass, which was opened to public traffic just recently, has routed a great deal of the heavy truck traffic, which previously passed into and throughthe city of Keokuk, past the outskirts of the city The northern junction of the By pass intersects Iowa Highway 218 on Main Street Road, |ust north of the Hoer-ner Boxes, Inc., plant. The entire length of the newsection of highway including the relocation of approaches on both U S 136 and Iowa 218, is 4.016 miles.Daily Gate City Photo
