Soap roles diverse for Linda CookBy Candace HavensLinda Cook plays Loving's Egypt Masters, a beautiful oddball whose dreams are as wild and wacky as the flamboyant clothes she wears. After deserting Alex Masters, her high school sweetheart and husband, some years ago, Egypt led an itinerant life. Interestingly enough, travel is very much a part Cook’s background.Bom in Lubbock, Texas, Cook lived there only until the age of 3. Her father’s job meant frequent transfers, so Cook grew up in a variety of locales. For a time the family lived in Omaha, then Dallas and, finally, Atlanta. While still in high school, she was accepted into the prestigious Atlanta CivicBallet and toured with the company throughout the Southeast. She made her Broadway debut as Karen in Home Front, which starred Carroll O’Connor and Frances Stem-hagen. A familiar face to daytime audiences, Cook played ingenue Laurie Ann Karr on The Edge of Night. According to the actress, the character of Laurie Ann was light years away from Egypt Masters.“Laurie Ann was a heroine, but she had some serious emotional problems,” recalls the actress. “She shot someone, got amnesia, left her baby on her best friend’s doorstep and was eventually committed.” She also portrayed Lucy Voight on All My Children. As Lucy, she portrayed a cool, sophisticated investmentbanker. © tv ukim* im
