Germany.The Reverend Daniel E. Cook, B.D. was invited to sit in on the meeting in consideration of organizing a Missionary Baptist Church, After much deliberation, the group decided that such a church be organized.The Reverend Cook then advised the grroup the proper way to organize a BaptistChurch. rBy unanimous vole the meeting was set for July 28, 1946 at 11 A.M. in the Robinson Hall, 60 Sixth street.On the date of July 28, 1946, at 11 A.M. the following persons met at the Robinson Hall for the purpose of organizing o Baptist Church: Mr. Samuel Hicks, Mr, John Henry Dawson, Mrs. Ruth Hicks, Mrs. Vernell White'.ow, Mrs. Lula Dubose, Mrs. Willie V. Ger-many, Mrs. Mildred Hardin, Mr. F, D. Shurn, Mrs Alberta Cole, Mrs. Lillie Mae Shurn Mrs. Rosie Lee Bunks, Mrs, Ellen Bray, Miss Minnie Pearl Harris, Mrs, Alonia Dawson* Mrs. Annie Mae Williams, Mrs. Queen E. Hicks, Mrs. Bernice Mitchell, Mrs. Harry Lee Harris, Mrs. Mary Cote, Mr. John Watson, Mrs. Cara Starkey, Mr. Earnest McGinnis, Mrs. Flora McGinnis, Mrs. Annie Brent, Mr. Frank Crass, and Mrs, Clara Cross. It was recognised the following Sunday by both the General Baptist State Conventions of Miclii-gan and Indiana.The Reverend D. B. Cook was chosen as moderator and Mrs. Bernice MitehdF, as temporary secretary. Eight letters of dismission were presented and found to be valid.It was moved by Mr. Samuel Hicks and seconded by Mr. John Henry Dawson that tinder God this group become a Baptist Church. The Rev. D. E. Cook read the New Hampshire Declaration at Faith and the Baptist Church canvenant. Both were unanimously adopted. The Baptist Church Manual by J. M. Pendleton and the Holy Bible were chosen as our guide of Faith and practice.The invitation to Discipleship was extended and the following persons united with the Church on Christian Experience:Mr. F. CHURCH ADMINISTRATION: Church Committee, Baptismal Committee, Discipline Committee, Quitting Committee, Ways and Means Concordance, Church Advancement, Flower and Deco/afion Committee, Social Service Committee, Religious Education, and Sick Committee.Chroscn tor Director of Christian Education was Vaster Smith, ond Supcrinlendent of Sunday School, Mr. Samuel Hicks,Rev. Daniel £, Cook, PosforAt this time the Reverend Mr. Cook was asked to retire from the congregation. It was motioned 6y Deacon Samuel Hicks and seconded by Mr. F. D. Shurn that the Reverend Mr. Cook be pastor of the Progressive Baptist Church, indefinitely and the motion was corned unanimously. Upon return, the Rev. Mr. Cook thanked the con-gregatian for its consideration and accepted the call,A motion was carried that Rev. Morrie Cole be assistant to the Pastor.A motion was carried that the meeting be adjourned to meet again the following Friday n.ght, August, 1946 (Reverend Daniel E. Cook, B. Cook officiated and the Reverend W. E. Ellis gave the benediction, °The Church was dedicated on September 28, 1952 at 3:00 p.m. with the Reverend Dr. A. L. Preston as presiding minister. The Rev. Stanley Buck, Minister of Methodist Peace Temple gave the invocation. Dr. S. S. Reed, President of the Baptist Missionary and Education of Convention of Michigan delivered the Dedicatorial Sermon.
