SALEM.Rev. John Harned will preach at Salem Sunday.Joseph Smith threshed clover and corn fodder for G. H. Johnson* Friday.Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Day of Chariton were visiting in Salem Sunday.Uncle Johny Clowser of Lincoln township visited friends in Salem Sunday.Mrs. Wm. Clark of Chariton visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. Wilson, Sunday.Supervisor Wood has been busily engaged the past week in road work.The three and three-quarter inches of rain on the 20th was greatly appreciated. It enabled us to wash our clothes once again.Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Wilson of Ottumwa were visiting Mr. W’s parents in Salem the first of the week. John has been unwell for two weeks and unable to attend to his duties on the “Q.” but has now returned to work.Several farmers have had their chickens disappear in a very mysterious manner and while they can hardly believe that anyone would purposely steal them, they think that some person has misinterpreted the new tariff law and is laboring under the delusion that chickens are on the free list.”Eev. Wood, a former pastor here, twenty years ago, and who assisted in building the Salem and Bussell M. E. churches, preached a very interesting sermon at Salem Sunday to a large congregation of friends. Rev. Wood stood very high in the estimation of bin members and they were greatly pleased with the opportunity to hear him again.
