BETTER THAN EVER—It took seven people to carry this year’s 300-pound apple pie served at the opening of the Johnny Appleseed Festival Thursday night. Helping to move the world’s largest apple pie are from left Garry Breese, Johns-Manville Superintendent; Ed Hanks, Director of the Chamber of Commerce; Lee Hendricks manager of the Stop and Shop and his son Craig; Dave Schwiebert, Johns-Manville; Craig Randall, chairman of the Johnny Appleseed Festival; Bill McDonough, president of the commercialretail division of the chamber. According to Max Meek, baker of the pie, there were 100 pounds of apples, 30 pounds of sugar, 30 pounds of flour, 20 pounds of shortening, three pounds of butter and one and a quarter pounds of salt used to make the pie. Meek stated it took just over four hours to bake and more than an hour to make the dough and mix the ingredients. The pie was four feet in diameter and four inches deep. Crescent-News Photo.A AA A A
