Hendricks hasn’t won at Stafford He's used to winning, but lost on each occasion to Bugsy Stevens.Stevens once wound up in the wall with Hendricks, but managed to win the race. It’s one of the few ovals Hendricks hasn’t won on.Cousy will start Connie Dier-king at center, 6-8 Jerry Lucas and 6-5 Tom VanArsdale at the forwards and rookie Hcrm Gilliam and the unbelievable Oscar Robertson at the guards.There is a chance also, that Cousy will see action, although he is presently battling with the Celtics’ Red Auerbach to get a release so he can play.The Celtics will be without the retired Bill Russell. The playcr-coach who guided the Celts to the title last year after being vast underdogs, is still being sought by Auerbach, but it looks like big Bill is done.Stevens, two time national modified champion and press-ing for a third consecutive title — which would be unprecedented — will be on hand Sunday, along with Jerry Cook, of Rome. N. Y.Cook presently holds a slim lead over Stevens in the race for national honors, and these two battle-scarred veterans will no doubt be trying every trick in the books with double points on the line Sunday, and Sl.300 for the winner.Stafford has also announced that starting positions will be determined by time trials, putting the present standard of 21.17, owned by Stevens, to a test.Charlie Jarzombek. a 100-lap winner at Stafford this season, and Fred Harback. a Stafford steady, represent the I-ong Island area.Lou Lazzaro, the winningest driver in the Northeast. Dave Gaul. Andy Romano. Rene Charland of Agawam. Mass., and Cook give New York State a strong representatioh.With eight different winners so far this season, the regular Stafford field presents plenty of opposition. Stevens, who has won 15 features over the past three years — including a 100 lapper July 4th; Ed Flemke, nine wins and probably the best on the Stafford oval; Smokey Boutwell, the current Stafford point leader and winner of four races this season, including two 100 lappers; and Bob San tos. a national contender this year and a winner twice so far. lead the Stafford regulars.Celtics Playing In Area Oct. 9
