4JiUSTUH BUST.OF TIME WHEN RACE WASBOSTON HEBREWS ERECT BOOTHS IN MEMORYWILDERNESS\\|IIftBOOTH USED DURING THE FEAST O F THE TABERNACLES BY THE HEBREWS, AND WHICH ARE CONSTRUCTED ON THE ROOFS OF THEIR HOMES.On the roofs and In the yards of Hebrew residents of Boston and vicinity, those of the Orthodox belief, there are to be seen hundreus of little booths and tents, which are to be used for living purposes during the next two weeks as part of the observance of the Feast of the Tabernacles or Succoth. This event,an annual occasion, 13 to commemorate the living In booths for 40 years by their people during the journey through the wilderness out of Egypt,When the hour for the meal comes, the families visit their booths or tents and there partake of the foods that are symbolic of the festival. At this time, also, Is celebrated the harvest of the grape and the vine. In all the booths, where small tables occupy the centre of the room, large piles of grapes are to be found, while on the street corners the grape pedlers are fighting for space from which to dispose of their wares.One of the most beautiful booths in this city is that erected by the Young Men's Hebrew Association on the roof of their headquarters, 39 East Concord street, South End. It Is decorated with myrtle, oak, laurel wreaths and willow, while from the roof hang pine cuttings, cuttings from apple and pear trees, loops of cranberries, grapes and popcorn. On one side of the booth hangs the Stars and Stripes.
