Fiftieth Wedding AnniversaryOf Pioneer Residents Sunday■Mr. and Mrs. John Kalstad of Glenville Surrounded by ManyFriends and AH Their Children at Golden Wedding Festivities—Many Tributes Paid Respected Couple.SUNDAY afternoon, September 20, a large number of relatives and friends assembled at the First Lutheran church of Glenville to help Mr. and Mrs. John Kalstad cele-The large gathering was then inbrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary. The festivities opened with a formal program in the church auditorium, consisting of the followingnumbers;hi*8eltj Prelude by Mrs. Beatrice Nelson; Hymn 440 (This was used at their marriage fifty years ago); address by the Rev. A. C. Korsrud; vocalvited to the church parlors, which had been most appropriately decorated with gold streamers and cut flowers, w here the sons and daughters of the family had prepared an elaborate banquet. He also extended an invitation to the Kalstad family and guests present to attend the Diamond Jubilee of Luther college which is to be celebrated October 15 to 18.Julius Kalstad paid a tribute tohis father and mother and Mr. Irving Nelson sang several selections*accompanied by his wife.The Rev. Korsrud spoke on behalf of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Kalstad expressing their thanks for the purge, gifts and the kindness shown them by their many friends and relatives. The Legion post and auxiliary at Glenville sent a beautiful bouquet.A vocal solo by the Rev. A. C. Korsrud followed and the Rev.The happy affair concluded by singing of the doxology, and thebenediction.IAdolph Egge of Dennison, Minn., brought greetings from old friends and neighbors of the Kalstads.At the conclusion of the program in the church auditorium the local pastor read a number of telegramsand greetings.John J. Kalstad wras born in Freeman township on May 19, 1861, the son of Johannes J. and Karen Kalstad who came to Freemon township from Norway in 1861. He became the owmer of his father's farm and made his home there until 1907 when he moved to Albert Lea and resided there for two years. He then returned to the farm and built his present home, where he has lived since, with the exception of a short time spent in the village of Glenville.IAmelia Anderson was born in Freeman township on Aug. 22, 1866, the daughter of Jens and Kari Anderson, who had settled in the same community in 1857. She was married on Sept. 20, 1886, to John J. Kalstad, by the Rev. Tosdal, at the Silver Lake Lutheran church.To this union were born eight children, namely: Julius C. of Gor-donsviile; Casper A. of Cohasset, Minn.; Adelia Haugen of Albert Lea; Cornelia Foss of Churches Ferry, N. D.; Milford of Glasgow, Mont.; Beatrice Hallum of Fairmont, Minn.; Carl W. of Glenville, and Augusta Sogaard of Sheffield, Iowa.It was a happy and remarkable fact that each of these children wasIpresent at the festival Sunday.The grandchildren present were: Lorraine Kalstad, Cobasset, Minn.; Marie Foss, Churches Ferry, N. D.; Beatrice Nelson, Albert Lea; Nadine Halium, Fairmont; Wilma Kalstad, Paul Kalstad and Jackie Kalstad of Glenville; Richard Foss andAgnes Foss of Churches Ferry, N.D.; Carl Haugen, Glenville; Laurence Sogaard, Sheffield, Iowa.!
