Ephraim Badgar.With heartfelt Borrow the Herald ■chronicles the death of Eph Badger, one • of the oldest and best known residents of this city, which occurred at his home in east Chariton on Tuesday morning, September, 22, 1908, at 12:15 o’clock. He had been In ill health for several months, suffering with heart trouble and ■dropsy, but recently was greatly improved and on last Saturday attended the old soldiers’ reunion in this city. On Monday morning while sitting in the yard he was suddenly stricken with paralysis and was in an unconscious condition when his wife reached his side. Medical aid was immediately summoned, hut he was beyond all earthly help and ■sank rapidly until the end came a few minutes after midnight. Largely attended funeral services, under the auspices of the Grand Array of the Republic and the Chariton Fire Department were held -at his late home yesterday afternoon at two o’clock, conducted by Rev. C. E. Wells, pastor of the Christian church, Hjfter which interment took place in the Way nick cemetery southwest of this 'City.Ephraim Badger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ebenezer Badger, was born in Grant county, Indiana, on November 7, 1836. In I860 the family came to his county *nd for fifty-eight years this has been the 'home of the deceased. He was married 'here on December 29, 1859, to Miss Margaret Holmes, who survives him. They were the parents of four children, two sons and two daughters, all of whom are living. They are Will E. Badger, Mrs. Grant Williby and Mrs. Jake Martz, of this city, and George Badger, of Council Bluffs. He is also survived by five brothers and three sisters, Sam, of Russell, Will A., of Burlington, F. M. of Idaho, Ed, I. N., Mrs. Mary Bowers, Mrs. Phoebe Moore and Mrs. Martha Moore, all of this county. He was a charter member of the Chariton Fire Department and for several years served as • chief. He was also a prominent member of the Iseminger Post, G. A. R. Eph Badger was a well known and familiar character in this vicinity and numbered his friends by his acquaintances. He possessed an unusually happy and . jovial disposition, and his kind and generous nature will ever be remembered by those with whom he came in contact. At the beginning of the civil war he enlisted as a member of Company K, 34th Iowa, and served his country faithfully for three years and three months, when he received an honorable discharge. Hewas everybody’s friend and nobody in ' Chariton was held in higher regard. His death will be sincerely mourned. To the sorrowing wife and children and other relatives the deepest sympathy of the community is extended.
