Freehold area AAUW open to new membersFREEHOLD TOWNSHIP -The Freehold Area Branch of the American Association of University Women will welcome prospective and active members at an open house Thursday Sept. 30 at 8 p.m. in Laura Donovan School. Sto-nehurst Blvd.According to Mrs Leila Sul-kes of Freehold, membership chairman, all women graduates with a bachelor degree from accredited colleges anduniversities in this country and abroad are eligible to join AAUW.A preview of the year’s monthly programs, held at Laura Donovan School the second Thursday night of each month, will be given by Mrs. Phyllis Garber of Ma-nalapan, program chairman. The October 14 meeting will feature Ruth Mandel, director of the Center for the American Woman and Politics,Eagleton Institute of Politics, Rutgers University. Her topic will be Women in Public Life, a discussion of women who hold national and state political offices, how they got there and why there aren't more of them.Study group coordinator Mrs. Marcia Werth of Freehold, stated that the leaders will have information and sign-up sheets for the groups planned for the coming year. They include creative crafts, cultural studies, contemporary literature, the history of women, French conversation, international affairs, comparative religion, a bridge round robin, and a special topic of AAUW study, the 21st Century. New groups may still be formed for the year centered on members' particular interests These study groups meet at members' homes during the daytime or evening, usually monthlyAAUW has as its purpose to encourage the continuing interests of college women and to help them return to the community the benefits of their education.
