In 1894 Walk boro was a community without an actual theatrebuilding Traveling stage shows had visited the town and appea*ed in the ol concert halls, one of which wav located on the third floor of what is now the Tioga Count*/ Savings and Trust Co building; another in the building now occupied by the Masonic Lodge, and a third in the present Carson Block, which at that time was known as the Opera House Block.It was m that year of 1894 that William Bache built the Bachc Auditorium and gave it to the community for use as a theatre and school .auditorium, to be handled by a Board of twelve trustees. After 60 ivears this old wooden theatre building can no longer measure up to the State building and safety re-quirements for Theatres and so Wellsboro's first actual theatre memory The Behae Auditorium was used for public gatherings and stage shows until 1912, when it was leased by Alan B Dean and Arthur H Dartt, to be used for the showing of motion pic tures Shortly afterward, Mr Dean's interest was bought by Mr Da*tt who later sold out 1) O B. Roberts and Son In 1921 the lease was taken over by the Arcadia Theatre Company and moving pictures were discontinued in the Auditorium it being used only foi public gatherings and stage presentations A few jcarsajo it was again equipped fc--movies but the coming of the Drive1 n theatre made this venture an unwise one and it wa, again uv’d only for stage ptir-pies It was !art used for the presentation of the Queens at the S a‘e Laurel Festival in June of 1953T.ie fir.»t mov ie theatre in V/clbboro was the Dreamland which was located next door to the Parkview Hotel where the White Front is now in business.
