V COXThe long arm of the law in the person of Sheriff Jay Abbott reached out yesterday afternoon, placing three Coshocton county youths behind bars and marking solution of a shooting mystery dating from the night of Dec. 23, 1937, when two youths armed with revolvers attempted to hold up the Cullins filling station in Dresden,The three youths under arrest are Noble Thomas, Woodrow Dobson and Fred Cunningham, all of whom were residents of the West Bedford-Cooperdale vicinity in 1937.Ed' Cullins, operator of the filling station, was not the typeto give up hard-earned money without a fight. Showing a brand of courage that is seldom found, he leaped at the two youths, who had handkerchiefs over their faces, while their guns were covering him. Both opened fire and a few moments later had fled.When persons nearby reached the scene Cullins was lying on the floor with bullets thru both arms and his back. The bandits had fired 11 times and only one of their bullets had missed.The pair vanished into thin air and for nearly two years, while the law has been patiently at work, felt so secure that both* fof them married.Cullins was in a hospital for a long time, finally recovering, altho he never has regained use of his left arm.Sheriff Ed Redman, Zanesville, took charge of the case, as Dresden is in Muskingum county.
