11JJ11Cruise, Kidmanjoin forces incosmetic lawsuitAssociated PressLOS ANGELES - Tom Cruise and Nkole Kidman joined forces to file a lawsuit against cosmetics chain Sephora USA,Tom CruiseNicole Kidmanwhich they allege used their images without their consent.The Superior Court lawsuit claims ads in 2001 for Sephora’s“Celebrity Scents” created the misleading impression that the couple “used, preferred, endorsed or sponsored Sephora’s products.The lawsuit seeks $15 million in damages and asks that the award be tripled because of alleged violations of the Lan-ham Act, the law designed to protect intellectual property rights such as patents, tiade-marks and copyrights.A telephone message was left with Sephora offices in New York City on Thursday.Cruise and Kidman, who were divorced last summer, arepictured in an ad for the “L’eau down on celebrity sweethearts,” used to promote Valentine’s Day gifts.The lawsuit, filed Wednesday, says Cruise and Kidman were involuntary models without pay.
