MARRIED 63 YEARSMr. and Mrs. Daniel Gray Observe Sixty-Third Wedding Anniversary Last Fridav, September 13It is very rare that a man and wifeare privileged to live together for the long period of 63 years, but Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Gray, of this cit$r, can claim that distinction. Surrounded by their children and grandchildren, they celebrated their sixty-third wedding anniversary at their home last Friday, September 13, 1918, the children present being as follows: R. V.Gray, Lacon; Jason R. Gray, Odeboit, Iowa: Mrs. Ella Coffman, Lacon; Mrs. Laura Patton, Flannagan, 111.; Mrs. Lettie Sims, Saunemin, 111.; Mrs. Stella Allen, Fostoria, Iowa. One son, Thomas Gray, of Denver, Colo., was unable to be present. Grandchildren present were Mrs. Carl Allen, of Correction ville,^ Iowa, and Mrs. William Shatto, of Fostoria, Iowa, the former accompanied by her husband, also Mr. and Mrs. James Coffman and Tessie and Grace Coffman, of South Lacon. Nineteen persons partook of the sumptuous dinner that had been prepared for the happy occasion.Daniel Gray and Martha Richardson \yere married at Bennington Grove in Bell Plain township, this county, on September 13, 1855. The bride was a daughter of Thomas Richardson, a pioneer settler of Bell Plain township. She was born in Huntingtonshire, England, on July 11, 1836, coming toMETHODIST CHURCHSunday, September 22, is the opening Sunday of the new conference year. The government insisted that the list of 18 to 45 registrants must be published in full and in this week’s paper, and as there are nearly 2,000 of them, it was a big task to get the list ready and set up for j publication. It had to be done, how- i ever, as Uncle Sam is boss these days. •LOAM CLUB ENTERTAINEDMisses Winnie and Irene Eger ton most pleasantly entertained the Loani Club Tuesday evening at their commodious home on South Prairie street. On account of the coolness of the evening the original plan of a porch party and a wiener roast had to be abandoned. A pleasant time was spent indoors, however, and the hostesses served an appetizing lunch of sandwiches, salmon salad, olives, pickles, chocolate and ginger cakes. An unusually large number were present.Mr. 2fnd Mrs. Daniel Gray, Who Celebrated Their Sixty-Third Wedding Anniversary Last Friday, September 13America with her parents when she was 15 years old. The first home was in Indiana, but after a few years spent there the family moved to Bell Plain township, this county.Mr. Gray was born at Martinsville, Ind., on June 13, 1833. His father, Allen Gray, was also a pioneer settler of Marshall county, coming here in 1834 and locating in Richland township.The entire married life of Mr. and Mrs. Gray has been spent in Marshall county with the exception of a few years spent in Iowa and Missouri. Since their return from Missouri they have made their home in this city. Mr. Gray was 85 years old last June and Mrs. Gray was 82 in July. It had been planned to have some of those present last Friday who were present at the wedding 63 years ago, but investigation developed the fact that not one is living except Mr. and Mrs. Gray.The Journal joins the other friends of this venerable couple in congratulating them upon having been permitted to live happily together for a period much longer than the average life of man.
