Cine of the first two houses built in Coronado wi 1 be dedicatedtomorrow as an historical landmark. The Hartupee Hojse, built in 1886, will be dedicated at 2 p.m. by the Coronado Historical Association.The home, at 924 H Ave., was built by John Hartupee. He started building the home in early December, 1886 — and moved in 20 days lat?r — even though the house was not completed uniil early 1887.In the early 1890s Hartupee became involved in the drive to incorporate Coronado. Two months after Coronado residents voted for incorporation, Hartupee was elected a city trustee. Eventually, his youngest daughter, Ecythe, attended Coronado’s first public school.The house has had several owners since it was sold in 1908 to Annie and John Wain. In 1916 the property was purchased by Richard Corrin whose family still owns it toe ay.Corrin made many alterations on the house during the 1920s, including removal of the Victorian facade ahd enclosure of the porches. He died in i952, and his second wife, Nettie, retained the property un il her death in 1971.The ownership of the house was then transferred to Mrs. Marie Campbell, Nettie’s daughter and Corrin’s adopted step-daughter.The Campbells recently remodeled the home, adding a large wing — but the basic stricture still stands.Although ihe foces living in the home have changed during the past 89 years, the Hartupee House has undergone only minor face lifting during the time. The house, built in 1886, will be dedicated an historical landmark tomorrow by the Coronado Historical Association. With help from association officer, Bunny McKenzie, Ray and Ma^ie Campbell (at left in above photo) give the home a final check before the ceremony.
