Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Akers celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home on west Main street yesterday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Akers are well known he being a veteran of the civil war. Mr. Akers served in the 17th Indiana regiment during the war and was mustered out at Macon, Ga. He married Miss Sarah Barfield, September 12- 1865, and they moved to this city in 1880 where Mr. Akers engaged in the confectionary business for eighteen• •years. A sumptuous dinner was served Monday at 6 o’clock in honor of the occasion. Thdse present were Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Akers, Mrs. L. W. Gorsage, Mr. and Mrs. John Gorsage and son, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Akers, Eloise, Mildred and Norma Akers, Mrs. Lizzie Gorsage, Jean Gorsage, and Mrs. W. F. Green. Mrs. Akers was seventy-two years of age August 8, 1915, and Mr. Akers was seventy-four September 12.
