t. 17, 1944fMr. and Mrs. G W Nicholas, 3c., of Dp Witt held open house Tuesday at. their home to honor Mr. and Mrs. George Nicholas’ 50th wedding anniversary. There wereover 100 guests called to congrat-ulate this esteemed couple. The 1 house was a bower of flowers and gifts. Their son, as host, welcomed the guests at the door and Mr. and Mrs, Nicholas received the i guests in the living room.: Refreshments were served froma lace covered table centered with a large yellow and white wedding cake; the table was lighted with yellow tapers.Assisting in serving were Mes*dames W. J. Brier, Rhalph Carey,W. Pfeifer. Fred Schroeder and Miss Idell Buss. In charge of the guest, book, Mrs, Beatrice Pfeifer.Residents of IkWittMr. and Mrs. Nicholas are lifelong residents of DeWitt. Mr. Nicholas was born two miles south of DeWitt in a pioneer dugout onTurkey (rook on March 29th, 1870.Mrs. Nicholas came from Iowa toNebraska with her parents, * Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Moore when asmall child and lived on a farm adjoining the Nicholas homestead, attending the same school in District 13 as did Mr. NicMr. Nicholas was appointedpostmaster in 1915 by President Wilson in which position he servedfor nineteen vears. Mrs. Nicholaswas appointed his assistant in 1921 and has continued in that capacity. Since the appointment of his son in 1934, Mr. Nicholas has been engaged in real estate and insurance business. He is also justice of the peace.Out-of-town guests were: Beatrice Pfeifer, Mr and Mrs. Woodrow Pfeifer of Lincoln; Miss SIoss and Marguerite, Mr-. Lizzie Ellis. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Inderlied of Beatrice; Miss Wilma Carey of Shenandoah, la.: Miss Lotus Nicholas of Nebraska City, and Mrs. C. C.
