Whaley has been appointed unit organizer for the fifth Victory Loan, which opens October 18, and left on Saturday’s train for Calgary to attend an organization meeting. Mr. Whaley succeeds E. E. Oliver, who has carried the last two loans over the top.H. Sigler, chairman of the War Finance committee, called a meeting last week to discuss plans for the future. H. Thomson, who has been secretary of the committee for the past two years, has resigned and his office has been taken by D. Mackie.The Fairview Drug store, in line with drug stores all over Canada who have been conducting a stamp sale to buy medical supplies for the armed forces sold four sets of 16 stamps at 25c per stamp. The four lucky winners were: J. Bagley, drawn by Gracie Chalmers; L. Lloyd Somers, drawn by Miss E. Campbell; Pearl Morrison, drawn by Mrs. A. M| Archibald; jD. J. McBride, drawn by H. Sigler.Miss Mary Vair Souch, Edmonton, is a guest of Miss Orah Johnson.Born, at the Fairview Community hospital, September 8, to Mr. and Mrs. James Rose, of Whitelaw, a son; September 9, to Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Pratt, Royce, a son.Fairview residents were deprived of their beauty sleep Sunday at 9.30 a.m. when the fire bell sounded, and with avery strong wind blowing, ran to the fire hall to see if their help was needed, but when they arrived, whoever rang the bell had ran away so the fire truck and crowd had to chase over town to find the fire, and discovered a chimney had been on fire and was all out. Please note: in future when ringing the fire bell stay at the fire hall until someone arrives and tell them where the fire is and save time and loss of property.Cliff Laharty, who is with an artillery unit in Eastern Canada, has received a promotion with the rank of Battery Sergeant Major.Edward Laharty of the RCAF, is home on leave visiting his parents Mr. and Mrs. J. Trowsdale, who left for the Coast 11 years ago, returned last Saturday to visit his daughter, Mrs. Mel Brown and to renew acquaintances with friends throughout the district.
