A raid conducted by Constable K. , B. Simmons and City Officer F. O. ‘ Mangrum in the negro section Monday resulted in federal charges being |, filed against Mandy Cummings in j, the United States District Court at i. Sherman. The officers found nine , half-gallon jars of non-taxpaid boot- , leg liquor in her home.The negress was turned over to L Howard Weihs, deputy United States j marshal, who took her to Sherman and filed charges. She pleaded guilty before United States Commissioner Catherine Wharton and bond was set at $300.00.It is said the liquor belonged to a | local negro character, who had it stored in the home of the woman. | The home of the negro man was, raided but no liquor was found in it. j Later the home of the woman was raided. The latter raid was the result of a tip given the officers, and was fruitful.
