The year following they came to Blackford county and acquired ownership of their present home place, consisting of 160 acres, and have resided on the same farm since that time. Washington township was practically all wilderness upon arrival of Mr. and Mrs. Kitterman, but in a few months Mr. Kitterman had cleared two acres and with the timber had constructed a home, in which log house they lived until about 1889. Since that date until two years ago, their daughter, Mrs. Frank Nelson, and family lived in the cabin. Mr. Kitterman is 76 years of age and Mrs. Kitterman has passed the 68th miles stone. They have four children, Mrs. Frank Nelson, Soloman and Harvey Kitterman, of Blackford county, and Harlan Kitterman, who is out westMr. Kitterman bears an unusual distinction, not having cast*his vote for president for 52 years. In November, 1856, he cast his vote for James Buchanan, who was elected by a large majority over Fremont, the republican candidate. Buchanan was inaugurated in March,' 1857. Buchanan’s administration did not prove satisfactory to Mr. Kitterman and since that time he has refused to go to the polls.Mr. and Mrs. Kitterman are .members of the Dunkard church. Few residents of the county have larger acquaintances or more friends.
