come os o God Bond to the bereaved family. . LLast Sunday, Sept. 12th, 1897, was the 50th birthday of Supervisor Nels P. Iloegh and in honor of the event his friends gathered at his pleasant home in Oakfield township iu large numbers. Many of the guests ar-rivod early aud partook of the splendid mid-day repast. By 2 o’clock nearly 800 people had ossembred on the shady lawu and then came the event ot the day. The guests were quietly called together iu n group aud then Mr. Iloegh was presented with an elegant gold watch aud chain. The watch bore this inscription neatly engraved in Danish, which translated in English reads: “ Presented by friends to Nels P. Iloegh, on his 50th birthday, 1897.” ltev. Graveoganrd mode the presentation speech. The gilt came as a total surprise to Mr. Iloegh aud he responded with thanks. The rest of the afternoon was spent in a social meeting and to say that the guests were highly entertained is putting it mildly. Coffee, cake, ice cream and various other refreshments were served and in the evening a bounteous supper was spread. The Oak Hill band was present and tilled the air with delightful music. All enjoyed themselves immensely and it was an occasion that will never be forgotten. ’Tis ouly men like Mr. Hoegh who receive such tokens ot friendship and good will as wuh presented to him Sunday and well does lie deserve it. If there in any man in Audubon county who lias merited the credit and honor bestowed upou him that man ie Nels P. Hoegh. lie has lived here for many years atul has always proved himself a grand good man for the community. While lie has enjoyed much prosperity ho hasalws been a friend to tho needy.
