CELEBRATE GOLDEN WEDDINGMr. and Mrs. Joseph Schuman, of Illinois Celebrated Their Golden Wedding Last Friday, August 27th.BIG DINNER BAND PLAYSThe Evening was a Most Enjoyable One—Eighty or More Guests Were Present to Participate [in the Evening Festivities.Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Schuman, of i this city, celebrated their fiftieth, or golden wedding anniversary, at their home on Lincoln street, last'Friday evening from 6:80 to 10:00 o’clock. One hundred invitations were issued for this event, many of them to relatives and friends at a distance «u J many of those could not come but there was a large number of relatives and friends present, as eighty were in attendance. The Ogden K. of P. band was present and discoursed some pleasant band music, much to the delight of all present.A four-clt;urse wedding supper was served consisting of pressed chicken, and ham sandwiches, potato salad, pickles, dressing, coffee, iced tea,water melon, ice cream, cake and fresh fruits.After the supper was a short program of music and an address by Rev. Leo Howard, who spoke on the topic of•Fifty Years Wedded.” HiB remarks were timely and well pleased the audience. Miss Neva Schuman, a granddaughter, and Miss Harley Den-hart, ajniece, to Mr. and Mrs. Schuman, rendered some splendid pianoof this city, and three grandchildren, Walter Schuman, son of Mr. and Mn. George Schuman, and Percy and Neva Schuman, son and daugther of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Schuman. Lawrence Schuman, of New Albany. Ind., and Henry Schuman, of Wolcott, Indiana, brothers of Joseph 8chuman, and Mn. Eli/abeth Straub, of Corydon, Ind., a Bister, were expected here to attend the festivities, but owing to sickness in the families they could not come.Those who were present were: Joseph Schuman and wife, Rev. Leo Howard and wife, Walther Men get, wife and children, Aunt Elizabeth Swearingen, Mrs. Mary Gibson, Louis Denhart, wife and children, Postmaster A. A. Funk, Mrs. Geo. It does not happen to very many couples to celebrate their golden wedding and they were proud of the fact that they could enjoy this occasion to the fullest and it made them happy to have their children, relatives and friends with them at this time.Mrs. Schuman, who is a native of France, was born seventy years ago She came to this country at the age of eight years with her parcntB and Bet-lied in Harrison county, Indiana. Mr. Schuman was born in Louisville, Ky., seventy-seven years ago, but latter moved to Harrison county, Ind., where he met Mrs. Schuman and here they were married on August 27, 1865. They then moved to Brtckenridge, Indana, where Mr. 8chuman was postmaster and proprietor of a general store, They remained there until twenty-six years ago, when he retired from active busi* neBs life and they moved to St Joseph, Illinois, which has been [their home ever since. They have two sons, J. H. Schuman and George Schuman, bothH. Schuman and wife, Miss Neva Schuman, Percy Schuman, Min Heater Ensley, F. H. Cole, of St. Joseph; Miss Minnie Zimmerman, of Coving ton,Indiana; Mr.Tony Myers and wife, of Urbana; Mrs. Minnie Taylor and daughter. Miss Leora, of Palmyra, Indiana; Mrs. HI la Renfro, of Urbana; Mrs. Geo. Zimmerman, of 8idell; Henry Zimmerman and wife, of Covington, Indiana; Fred Zimmerman and wife, of Wawaka, Indiana; Jacob Schoen and wife, of Harrison county, Indiana; Mrs. Julia A. Gibson, of Fayetteville, North Carolina.It w’B8 a beautiful evening for on occasion of this kind and made it possible for the lawn to be used which added much to the picturesqueness of the affair. The band music, the general good feeling and all made the evening a memorable one and will long be remembered by those in attendance.One remarkable thing to be mentioned is the fact that in all their wedded life Mr. and Mrs. Schuman have not had a death ia their immediate family.The Record joins in congratulations to this happy couple and we sincerely hope and trust they will live to celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary.—St. Joseph, 111., Record Sept. 3.
