AND MRS. .HENRY RATZ MARRIED FIFTY YEARS.The Occasion Was Celebrated Today in aI * • i . •• » / * •Fitting Mahner-^Other Social Gatherings.• • * •The celebration of a golden wedding anniversary is nofc whtit might be termed a common occurrence, for few couples have the happiness to enjoy wedded bliss for a half century, and thus it was that the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ratz was the scene of merry-making today, the children and grand children of the couple assembling to give due observance to the event.The first observance to the anniversary today was solemn high mass celebrated at St. Joseph’s church ^ byRev. Geo. H. Ratz, of Batavia, assisted by Fr. Kalvelage and Fr. Meyer. The next part of the celebration was a dinner at the homestead;: 26 Ordway St., which was attended by six children, Rev. Geo. H; Ratz, ;of Batavia, J. S. and Henry .JR., of Chicago, F. W. and John L., of Freeport,; and Charles G. Ratz, of Indianapolis, and Mrs. LillianCurran, of Portsmouth, Neb.; Henry Ratz 'and Mary Sophia Walters were married in New York City Sept. 13, 1849, and came to this city in 1853, Mr. Ratz subsequently serving a term as collector and also one as treasurer, at other times engaging in the business of tailoring. ' ^• Besides six children, 21 grand children added to the merry scene. ^Mr. and Mrs. Ratz were the ;recipients of many valuable gifts from their children and friends. 'r*
