Lum, sales manager for the nearly-completed Ramada. Inn, said the 200*room structure'will open hopefully before the end of the month. ■ .In keeping with .the sprit of a contest sponsored by the Ramada Inn, she did not predict a specific time. Whoever can guess the opening date wins a -‘get-away-from-it-all1' weekend for two in the inn’s bridal suite, complete with meals on the house, champagne and breakfast in bed.The Ramada Inn, located off Interstate 95 at Washington Street, is being billed as the “convention center for Southside Virginia.” Able to accommodate 600 persons for conferences in the Presidential Room and 400 for seated banquets, it will be the largest such facility in the area.In her position, with the Inn, Mrs. Lunv, formerly a promotion director with W a Shut Mali shopping center, has been encouraging convention* tourist and travel agency interest ift Petersburg, what .she cslis “a .neglected area.” ' * •.She reported sending “thousands” of letters across the country enticing such groups to include Petersburg on their itineraries.The Ramada Inn, she predicted, will .help; gain Petersburg a spot on the convention circuit and bring dollars into the city’s, economy as visitors spend and are taxed forThe Inti will also do its bit, she promised, in providing jobs as the restaurant will employ 75 . persons and the inn (hotel) part, 50 persons.The tallest building' in ‘ Petersburg will feature a variety of accommodations from the ■guest rooms, executive and bridal suites, two rooms . designed especially for handicapped persons to “hospitality suites” which can double as minor convention facilities.The Tom Ross Charcoal Hearth restaurant, said by Mrs. Lum, to be patterned and named after its more famous predecessor in the Washington, D, G. area,* will .seat-,160 persons.Beef and seafood will be featured itemsi •' \ • ■among its 40 entrees. An. outside patio will be . available for receptions and parties. •- The accompanying Eagles Nest lounge, which can handle 150, will, have live entertainment nightly. Restaurant hours will be 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily with the lounge open from 5 p.m. to. 1 a.m. daily.These two : facilities will not open until sometime after the inn's rooms are available in, order for workmen to apply finishing touches, she said. .Other : features of the new establishment include, a: heated swimming pool, all-weather parking for 300 automobiles and office Space for lease on the inn's first floor.A number of problems including-gas shor-' tages, a steel strike, 2,9 broken windows during a spring storm anti loss of personnel have delayed the inn’s opening. It was original!) scheduled for opening in July.When it does finally open, like the Ramada people say, is anybody’s guess..lodging^ food and beverages.OPEN daily 10-10 THURS., FRI., SAT.
