Hufford observed their golden wedding anniversary quietly, at their -home, 140 14th St., on Friday August 29 and were honored with a family dinner on Sunday evening at the Rib and Sirloin Restaurant. Dinner hosts were their two sons, Dean Hufford of Pulaski and Robert Hufford of Kinston, N.C.Mrs. Hufford wore a white dress and corsage of yellow roses -tied with gold. Mr. Hufford’s boutonniere was a yellow rosebud.The banquet room was festive with traditional gold and “50” decorations. The head table was covered with white and bore an arrangement of yellow and white chrysanthemums and carnations, flunked by gold candles set in a runner of mountain ferns. The brother and sisters of the honorees shared this table with them. Other tables featured ferns, goldenrod, and gold candles.Places were marked with cards bearing the numeral “50” and souvenir booklets which contained the report of the wedding as it appeared in the Radford newspaper in 1925. Rags of gold, (foil wrapped chocolates) were table favors. Floor baskets of goldenrod and ferns were used because theyhad been the chosen floral decoration for the home of thebride’s parents when the wedding was performed by Rev. W.M. Jones, in Radford. A four-tiered anniversarycake was topped With the goldenwedding bride and groom figurine. The cake table was covered in white with gold net overlay. A white dove, nested in gold ribbon bows, was placed on each corner. The gift table held many lovely tokens of love and esteem for the nonorees.The Rev. Robert Hufford gave the dinner invocation. Guests were 49 members of the Hufford, Chinault, Cox and Grayson families and surviving members of the original wedding party.Of those mentioned in the wedding story, six are deceased: Mr. and Mrs. R.V. Cox and Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Hufford, parents of the couple; the Rev. Mr, Jones, and Mrs. J.T. Whitt, pianist.Special recognition was given to those participants who are still living in this area, and were able to attend the dinner. They included the flower girl -Mrs. Robert Marshall, Hiwassee; ringbearer - Mrs. Robert B. Layne, Radford; maid of honor - Mrs. Dewey M. Sutphin, Radford; bridesmaids - Mrs, Victor Barton-and Miss Mary Parrish, Radford, and Mrs. J. Carlyle Scott, Pulaski; and soloist - Mrs. M. Curtis Scott;Roanoke. *The other bridesmaid, Mrs.C.V. Jennings, Spotsylvania,was unable to attend.Miss Susan Quinn Hufford, a ’granddaughter from Greenville, N.C., Mrs. SamuelD. Orolladay and Mrs. Dean Hufford were floating hostesses. Miss Helen Jane Hufford, a granddaughter from Zanesville, Ohio, presided at the guest book.After dinner, the many beautiful gifts were opened and the evening was spent in reminiscing. Group photographs were taken. The activities were closed with the group reading,. in unison, a marriage prayer led by Dean Hufford. The prayer was taken from the cover of the souvenir booklet.In addition to the original wedding party, out-of-town persons who attended were Mrs. Paul Waulk, Mrs. Mary Ann Thompson, and Miss NancyE. Thompson, Beekley, W. Va.; Mr. and Mrs. Onis Hufford, Abingdon; Mrs, Arch Wilson, Robert B. Layne, and VictorBarton, Radford; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Golladay, M. Curtis Scott, and Col. and Mrs. William Martin* Roanoke; the Rev. Robert , Marshall, Hiwassee; Mr. and Mrs. J. Gordon Roberts, Reidsville, N.C.; Mr. and Mrs. C.W.Gillespie, Webster Springs, W. Va.; Miss -Rhesa ' Alice Wagstaff, Ayden, N.C;; and all the grandsons; Thomas Dean Hufford, Washington, D.C., Robert Grayson Hufford Jr., U.S. Army enlistee, Fort Jackson, S.C., and Timothy Brian Hufford, Kinston, N.C. Several attended from Pulaski.Mrs. Hufford is the former Miss Dutcenia “Dullie” Cox of Radford. Mr; Hufford, a Pulaskinative, is retired from the heating engineering business, being self-employed for the past fifteen years. Previously, he was, with Pulaski Vance Co. (formerly Harrison-Haneock Hardware). They have lived their entire married life in Pulaski where they are active members of First Christian Church. They are parents of two sons, and have 5 grandchildren and a foster granddaughter, Mrs. Karen Jones, Dunn, N.C.Canine ClassesThe Radford Recreation Department will offer an eight week Dog Obedience Class starting this month, if enough interest is shown.An organization meeting will be held at the RadfordRecreation Building, Thursday,September 11 at 7; 30 p.m., for those interested.Patrons attending the meeting will be under noobligation to register theiranimals for the course,however. Patrons attending Thursday’s meeting are reguested not to bring theiranimals.Tuition fee, due , the first day the class officially begins, will be $20 per animal.Further information may be obtained by calling the Recreatiion Department, 639-3051.Soccer LookFor the very short tunic over a leotard, add a pair of bold-colored, thigh-high socks over textured tights with laced shoes.
