Anyone who saw that program, or who missed it, will be delighted with “Stonehenge Decoded.”Astronomer Hawkins was fascinated by the elaborate configuration of stones and holes which seemed to all observers before 1960 to serve the simple purpose of sighting midsummer sunrise. In Chapter 6, “First Thoughts,” Hawkins relates how his fascination lead through the myths, legends and speculations of the ages to the application of'machine re-sea r c h techniques whichburst into /hscovery that Stonehenge was created, byman, for a purpose.For the astronomer the*supporting evidence in tables, diagrams, and statistics for Hawkins’ discovery is exciting.
