Barker was hostess Tuesday afternoon for an organization meeting of a chapter in Hendricks county of Daughters of the American J1 I Revolution. 'Mrs. Henry B. Wilson, of Delphi, State Regent of the D. A. R., was present and charmingly presided, giving a most instructive talk {] reviewing the preamble of the National constitution and dwelling in detail on the object and purpose of the D. A. R. i organization. She spoke of the interest manifested from a national stand-point in the Immigrant Manual which book published in the English, Italian, Spanish, Polish, Yiddish and Hun- t garian languages is winning such high 1 praise from educators. Mrs. Wilson spoke entertainingly from a state 11 standpoint of purchase and restoration of the William Henry Harrison house by the Francis Vigo Chapter of 1 Vincennes. Ai\d of the Tomassee ] school in honor of the gold star sons of the D. A. R.The question of an appropriate name for the Hendricks county chapter came up for. discussion and it was unanimously decided to accept the suggestion of Mrs. Edgar M, Blessing “Wa-pe-ke-way,” Indian name for “White Dick,” the first settlement being made-on the banks of White Lick creek in 1820. The Indian word means “White salt/' The following officers were installed for the new chapter by the State Regent: Regent, Mrs. T. R. Barker; vice-regent, Mrs. Julian D. Ho-♦gate; secretary, Mrs. Porter Smith; Treasurer, Miss Ruth Ewbank; registrar, Mrs. Edgar M. Blessing; program committee: Mrs. Robert Hufford, Mrs. Joseph Ferree, Mrs. Lucian Darnell; music, Mrs. J. Harold Grimes.The chapter was organized with 22 members—but the charter membershir. will be held open until the May meeting. Several prospective members’ ppers are pending and many more of this vicinity and the county are eligible. It is hoped to have a charter membership of fifty. Meetings will be held on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Mrs. Robert Hufford will be hostess for the meeting, September 25.Prior to*the meeting, Tuesday, Mrs. Wilson and the officers of the chapter were guests at a delightful four-course luncheon given by Mrs. Barker. The table was attractive with a centerpiece of pink asters surrounded by pink tapers in Dresden holders.
