Hersberger Retires After Long Service On Island To Mainland RunAfter weeks of negotiations, sale of Milt Hersberger’s \ir Tours, Inc., to Travelair Taxi, Inc., a Sandusky firm leaded by Ralph I. Dietrick, was completed Monday for a vported $95,000.Included in the purchase were three Ford tri-motor air-lanes, and airfields at Put-in-Bay, North Bass and Kelleys sland.Atty. Leslie Meyer, who represents Mr. Hersberger, said hat the star route mail contract earlier had been sub-iet *o Sandusky Airport, Inc., of which Mr. Dietrick is president.Travelair Taxi, Inc., the new corporation which will iperate from Port Clinton Municipal Airport, was formed f a group of Sandusky and Port Clinton businessmen after legotiations for the airport purchase had been started.Burglars Raid Studio At PerryBurglars broke into the Misch Studio in Camp Perry’s Commerical Row sometime early Wednesday morning and escaped with two cameras valued at nearly $40.Glass in a back dor was broken so that the thief could turn the lock. Discovery of the burglary was made by another merchant, who notified the military police. Dietrick has stated that the same fares and schedules will remain in effect iun-til schedules from the islands and Sandusky are announced. Martin Bickley, Sandusky. is the new airport office manager.Meanwhile the city of Port Clinton hopes to reach an agreement with Mr. Hersberger regarding settlement of claims which the city charges the former airline owes for back rent and landing fees.Runway Work UnderwayConstruction of a hardtop runway got underway at the airport Friday, and is being paid for from funds given to the airport committee by public subscription several years ago.Stone, donated by the Kelley Island Lime and Transport Company, is being hauled from the Marblehead quarries by city trucks and by trucks rented from tam-bert and Harger.Bulldozers and other city equipment made such rapid progress in excavating and the operation was running so smoothly early this week that Board of Public Utilities and Airport Board members contemplated immediate start of a 900-feet long East • West runway.The North - South runway is to he 2200-feet in length and 75-feet in width. If blacktop ingredients cannot be purchased this fall, the stone will be oiled to form a firm surface. »Among the additional facilities offered by the new owners will be charter trips anywhere in the U.S. and Canada. Hunters and vacationists will be especially interested in charter trips to Pelee Island.
