BILLY WOOD, the former Lenox High All-Berkshire outfielder, is a grand-nephew of Jack Ferry, the ex-Pittsburgh Pirates’ pitcher, who died Sunday. Billy's mother is the former Alice Ferry, Jack’s niece.Mrs. Wood and her husband, Fred, recently returned from Opalaka Air Force Base, Fla., where they saw Billy drive in the winning run for the Guan-tonamo Bay (Cuba) Marine Barracks in a game against the Air Force team.Billy had a fine season in the Cuban Service League. He ranked third in the circuit with a batting average of .345, and was the only Marine Corps man Selected on the all-star team. The rest all were Navy players.n—n
