ALL HONOR TO THE TOOELEPIONEERS,Sixty one years ago today, Sept* 2, 3849, Tooele City was first colonized by three families that could boast of a total population of eight persons, Judson Tolman, wife and son; Josiah Call, wife and son; Simuel Mccham and wife. They had entered Tooele Valleyby fray of Salt Lake City the day before, and camped at Pine canyon that night, and next day drove over and camped at the, mouth of Settlement canyon where they concluded to rest and settle for a time at least. At the October conference they went back to the city, and reported their labors to President Brigham Young. President Young counciled them to return and start a perminent settlement, and he would send them help.As the settlers came slowly in they built their log cabins along Or near the creek, but on account of the growing hostilities of the Indians, in about* hiee years they moved their houses on to the present site where Tooele now stands, where they might have a more open country to watch the movements of the Indians and to protect themselves from the skulking attacts of the foe.Three of the original Pioneers are still alive, Judson. Tolman and Ids son, and Cyril,' the 'son of Josiah Call. Mr, Tolman lives at East Bountiful, his son Judson, Jr., is a Bishop in one of the settlements in Idaho, and Cyril Call lives at Ogden. Our old esteem citizen, Francis X, Lougy, is the only person living in Tobele that .came to Tooele the year It fras first settled.
