The meet will feature the 2-mile Indiana record holder and State Champion, Mark Bir, of CentralCatholic. . ,Bir singed the track jast spring in the 2-miJe run in 9.12 to walk off with the state crown.But, Kinder remains very optimistic about the first meet.Logansnort will send six delegates through their paces Tuesday including two boys who have never participated in the sport before.The veterans include Jeff Berkshire, a senior; John Layman, senior; John Ulery, senior, and Joe Smith, senior. TheHigh School record of 10.13 twice during practice. Smith has turned in times of 10.08 and 10.07 since Aug. 1. The record is currently held by Ulery.The team will be. starting the season with a 10-meet winning streak since they went undefeated last year in their regular season.Logansport ended last- year second in the NCC behind State Champion Muncie, and finished second in. the local sectional.Kinder’s, optimism is aided-by the return of the nucleus of last year's squad, and says “If we get past 'Central Catholic,' we could well go undefeated this year.”“Enthusiasm on this team is unbelievable,” Kinder says. “We’ve been practicing . three times a week all 'summer, and twice a day since Aug. 1, and they still go out and run on their own.”Smith has logged nearly 400 miles since last spring, and fournewcomers are Paul Beedle, a I boys, Berkshire, John Mattson, junior, and Dee Moon, a sopho-lBeedle and Mark Neal haveregistered nearly 300 miles since then.The Logansport team also has a little more to shoot for this year.
