Golden Anniversary of Catholic Mission at Constance ObservedHARTINGTON, Neb.—'Tuesday wag the 50th anniversary of the founding of the first Catholic mis-PRA1RIE MISSION.sion in tiny Constance, a rural community 14 miles northwest of Hartington, Hence It was the dateof an old fashioned celebrationthat attracted hundred* of visitors, former parishoners and friends, some traveling miles for the all day festival.High mass at 10 a. m., attended by Most Rev. J. H. Ryan, biehop of the Omaha diocese, and many visiting priests, opened the day’s activities. The sermon was delivered by Rev. Francis Werthman of Butte, former Constance youth. Rev. Francis Latsch, Constancy pastor, was In charge of arrangements.The Constance parish, also known as St. Joseph’s, is one of the oldest in this territory, A Catholic mission was established near the site of the present church in the 1870s, and some oldtimera aver Catholic worship services were held in the community at an. even earlier date.Highlights during the day were a chicken dinner at noon, a baseball game between Constance and Menominee, and a dance in the evening. Assisting Father Latsch with the arrangements were Louis Schumacher, Joseph Stevens, Andrew Hofmaier, Rudolph Relfen-rath, Gergory Steffen, Mrs. Mary Langferman, Mrs. John W, Eick-hoff, Louis DeBlamv, Mrs. Herman Steffen, Mrs. Joseph Stevens, Mrs. William Kremer and Mr*. Joseph G. Schiffer.
