Pioneer Couple Wed Fifty-Seven Yearstc•lt;S'hiicftillrlt;fcct.About fifty relatives of 51 r. and Mrs. Henry Burk of this city gathered at their homo on Mulberry Btreet Sunday to help celebrate their iifty-seventh wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Burk hare lived in Black Hawk county nearly all the if married life, having come here frour'Illinois soon after their marriage.-' Both lived the early years oE their lives in Hassen Darmstadt, Germany, Mr. Burk coming- to America in 1S5S. Fouryears later Mrs, Burk came to America and the following year, August 29, iSiiS. they were united In marriage at Freeport. 111. The wedding took place in a log cabin belonging to Conrad Dmnpman, a cousin. After the ceremony they came to Iowa In :l prairie schooner drawn by four oxen and on Sept. 1? of the same year moved into the log house wnlch liad been erected on their farm in Mt. Vernon township, where they resided for about twenty years. Cater they purchased another farm in Bennington township and after living there for some time came to Waterloo! \ twenty years ago to their present home on Mulberry street. in spite of the fact that they are both well along in years, Mr. Burk being S3 years of age and Mrs. Burk 7S, they are in good health at present.Eleven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Burk, three of whom died in infancy. One sou, Henry F. Burk, died April 26, 1909. All the children were born on the old homestead in Mt. Vernon township and now reside 2n Waterloo or vicinity. They are: Charles II., Mrs. .lohu A. Schmidt,Mrs. Ernest DeirScks and George, all x-esiding in Bennington towns hip: Mrs. Charles J,udtke, 2 32 Cottage street: Mrs. Clara Buhr, 2301 Lafayette street, and Andrew, at homo. There are also thirty grandchildren fend four great-grandchildren.All of the children and nearly all of the grandchildren as well as Mr. *nd Mrs, Conrad Fust, the former a nephew- of the aged couple, of Bennington township, were present for the celebration Sunday. All were in the best of spirits and afier a bounteous dinner were entertained by stories of the hardships of the early, life of the honored couple. \
